Police recently arrested a teenage mother who allegedly allowed her young son to be around drug paraphernalia in a Pompano Beach FL home.
According to authorities, the 18-year-old suspect failed to properly care for the three-year-old victim.
When police received a report about child neglect, deputies with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office went to the suspect’s residence. Almost immediately after arriving at the scene, officers encountered what they described as a home in complete disarray. According to police, the house had no running water and no electricity. Moreover, the home was allegedly filthy and infested with flies.
Deputies inspected the young child and reportedly discovered several rashes across his body. Deputies also said that the boy was filthy and probably had not bathed in quite some time.
Police believed that the boy was malnourished because it appeared that he had not been fed for days.
The suspect was not at the residence when authorities showed up. At the time, the victim was in the care of the suspect’s 15-year-old sister. Additionally, two other adults were at the residence. According to police, all three adults at the home were under the influence of drugs.
Police conducted an investigation and eventually located the suspect a few blocks away; she was reportedly hanging out with friends.
The suspect was placed under arrest by deputies. She has been charged with child neglect with great bodily harm.
