Police Apprehend Man Suspected of Robbing Westin Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Armed Robbery at Fort Lauderdale Westin HotelFort Lauderdale police arrested a man who allegedly committed an armed robbery at a hotel in South Florida on New Year’s Eve.

According to authorities, the 30-year-old suspect walked into the Westin Beach Resort and Spa in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The hotel is located on A1A and Granada Street.

Once inside the hotel, the suspect allegedly approached the desk clerk. The suspect was reportedly brandishing a handgun as he instructed the clerk to hand over cash.

After getting money from the clerk, the suspect exited the building and fled the scene.

Fort Lauderdale police investigated the theft but were unable to locate the suspect.

Police eventually apprehended the suspect after receiving a tip via the Broward County Crime Stoppers tip line.

The suspect was captured near St. Petersburg. The suspect reportedly lives in Miami Gardens, FL.

After being placed under arrest, the suspect was formally charged with robbery and assault with a firearm.
If the suspect is convicted of first degree armed robbery, he could potentially be sentenced to life in Florida State Prison.
